Los Angeles, California – This summer, the City Terrace area in East Los Angeles is set to welcome a new farmers’ market, as announced by county officials on Wednesday. Supervisor Hilda Solis, representing the First District, which encompasses East L.A., emphasized the growing demand for an additional local farmers’ market beyond the existing one at the East Los Angeles Civic Center.
The organization In the Making will utilize county funds to establish this market, aiming to alleviate the scarcity of fresh food options in the region. The initiative also seeks to boost local small businesses by increasing the number of visitors to the area.

Edward Chang, co-founder of In the Making, expressed his excitement about the project.
“We were thrilled that Supervisor Hilda Solis has entrusted us with the funding to launch the first-ever farmers’ market in City Terrace,” Edward Chang, co-founder of In the Making, said in a statement. “This new market will not only provide area residents with an unprecedented array of fresh-food options, but it will serve as a go-to destination that will increase foot traffic and open the door to economic revitalization for small businesses throughout the area. ”
Solis’ office noted that over the past decade, the county has allocated $1.1 million to support farmers’ markets in East Los Angeles. This funding has contributed to the success of the Eastmont farmers’ market for the past seven years, and the county aims to continue this success with additional markets.

“Our partnership with the Eastmont Community Center worked exactly as it was designed — and which is why we extended our yearly funding with them over those seven years,” Solis said in her statement. “We provided the initial funding to help set Eastmont up for success, and they thrived on a scale that is truly impressive.”
She noted that Eastmont is expected to expand to a second location at Cal State Los Angeles.
